Open where it matters.
Most Formray products use open licenses. Every product now states its license and lifecycle plainly — including the ones that are private or internal.
Why open source
Inspectability matters when software handles sensitive data or becomes part of an operational workflow. Open licenses make architecture, trade-offs, and security claims easier to verify.
Open source also supports durability: self-hostable products can outlive a vendor. Connected services still need clear data flows, and internal products should never be presented as public code.
Licensing
Licensing follows the product rather than a blanket rule. AGPL protects shared improvements, MIT keeps adoption simple, Apache fits infrastructure work, and proprietary is stated where a system remains internal.
A license is not a maturity badge. The table below separates legal availability from lifecycle, so a concept is not mistaken for a production service.

License follows product
We choose terms for the product's ecosystem and publish the result instead of forcing one license across every kind of work.
Security is verifiable
Where we make privacy or security claims, we document the architecture and its boundaries — including platform differences.
No hidden status
Live, beta, pilot, mature, development, concept, and internal are different states. The site names them directly.
Transparent roadmap
Our development plans are public. You can see what is coming, provide feedback, and understand the direction.
